Scar Rehabilitation
A service born from personal experience.
Surgical scars tell a story. Whether your scar is from a caesarean section, abdominal surgery, a mastectomy or breast reconstruction, it carries the physical and emotional weight of everything your body has been through.
And yet, for most women, the scar itself receives very little attention after surgery. Wound care, yes. But the deeper work of restoring comfort, movement, sensation and connection with your own body? Rarely.
That is exactly what scar rehabilitation is for.

What is scar rehabilitation?
Scar rehabilitation is a specialist physiotherapy treatment that works with the scar tissue itself, addressing tightness, restricted movement, altered sensation, tenderness and the emotional relationship many women have with their scars after surgery.
Using gentle, evidence-based manual therapy techniques, scar rehabilitation can help to:
- Soften and mobilise scar tissue that has become tight or restricted
- Restore sensation in and around the scar
- Reduce discomfort, pulling or tethering sensations
- Improve the appearance of the scar over time
- Rebuild your relationship with that part of your body
- Support your physical and emotional recovery after surgery
Who is this for
Scar rehabilitation is offered for women who have experienced:
Caesarean section scars
Whether your section was planned or emergency, recent or years ago, scar rehabilitation can make a meaningful difference at any stage. It is never too late to begin.
Abdominal surgical scars
Including hysterectomy, myomectomy, appendix removal and other abdominal procedures where scar tissue may be causing restriction or discomfort.
Breast surgery scars
Including mastectomy, lumpectomy, breast reconstruction and implant surgery. These scars can significantly affect shoulder movement, posture, chest tightness and how women feel in their own bodies.
Oncology and cancer surgery scars
For women recovering from breast cancer or other gynaecological cancers, specialist scar rehabilitation forms an important part of the physical recovery journey. This work is offered with the deepest understanding of what cancer recovery truly involves, both physically and emotionally.
A personal note from Sophie
This service is one I have wanted to offer for a long time, and one that is deeply personal to me.
As someone who has navigated breast cancer and surgery myself, I know first hand how little support is available for the physical recovery that follows. The scar is visible evidence of something enormous that your body has been through. It deserves proper, specialist attention.
I am completing my scar rehabilitation training in December 2025 and cannot wait to begin offering this service. If you would like to be among the first to know when appointments become available, please join the waiting list below.
